How does natural Astaxanthin work to protect from UV damage, and does it protect from ground level ozone?

One of the main causes of ageing, UltraViolet rays, induce the production of in situ radical oxygen species (ROS) also known as free radicals. Free radicals destroy the collagen matrix in the dermis. UVA rays are responsible for much of the damage done by photo-ageing, they penetrate deep into the dermis where the damage to collagen fibres leads to wrinkle formation.

Natural Astaxanthin naturally reduces free radicals (ROS) in the body, whilst also protecting the cells against oxidation; unlike other antioxidants, due to its unique molecular structure Natural Astaxanthin can never become a pro-oxidant in the body. In this way, natural Astaxanthin protects the body from solar radiation and free radical pollutants.
